Welcome
Den Gamle Kro (which translates as The Old Inn) in Gråsten has been the town’s beloved restaurant for more than 170 years. This charming, old and slightly crooked house, dating back to 1747, has always been a lively gathering place.
This was where the town’s ship captains would meet for a good chat over a punch. Master craftsmen gathered here for a bite to eat and a dram. Businesspeople enjoyed leisurely lunches in the low-ceilinged inn room, while large and lively celebrations were held in the banquet hall.
Many of the town’s visitors have also enjoyed a good meal here – just a few hundred metres from Gråsten Palace – or a cup of coffee with homemade bread. And Den Gamle Kro continues to be a vibrant and welcoming place.
Following a careful and loving modernisation, the inn remains a place where time seems to stand still, while at the same time allowing room for renewal.

Monday – Saturday: From 11:00 am – 8:00 pm
Last table reservation at 6:30 pm, after which the kitchen closes
Takeaway must be picked up before 6:00 pm, cake to go must be picked up no later than at 5:00 pm
On days where we serve a buffet, the kitchen stops serving à la carte at 5:00 pm
The inn is open for celebrations every day, but on Sundays and Mondays the minimum number of attendees MUST be 25 persons
The Great South Jutlandic Cake Feast
(In Danish: “Det store sønderjyske kaffebord” or just “sønderjysk kaffebord“)
A beloved and popular local tradition featuring an abundance of homemade cakes, pastries and cookies, all served with coffee. Each time, we serve at least 29 different homemade treats! Apart from a few firm favourites, the selection changes from time to time and with the seasons.
